Fine writing box, made of olive wood, with carved ornamentations of sites in Eretz Israel. [Eretz Israel, late 19th century].
Olive wood, carved ornamentations, inlaid wood.
The body of the box consists of two parts: a writing box and a pencil case.
The pencil case for storing writing supplies – ink well, pen etc., is divided into compartments and includes a locking mechanism (key is missing). On the pencil case's cover appear carved ornamentations of flowers and the Cave of the Patriarchs. The frame around the ornamentations is of inlaid miniature pieces of wood in different colors.
The writing box has an inclining cover which opens with two hinges and turns into a writing surface. The inner part of the writing surface rises and reveals a storage compartment for paper. Behind a movable wooden plaque, in the back panel of the paper storage compartment, are two small movable drawers.
In the center of the writing box's cover appear carved ornamentations: the Temple Mount (Dome of the Rock) and flowers. The frame around the ornamentations, made of inlaid pieces of wood in different colors, creates the shape of the Jerusalem Cross.
The side panels of the case (right and left) are also carved with vegetal patterns and holy sites. On the right – the Western Wall, and on the left – Rachel's Tomb.
Height: 11 cm, width: 39 cm, length: 28 cm. Good condition. Minor damages.

A “Jerusalem Cross” is printed On the cover’s center (a large square cross with four square crosses integrated into it), Two captions are printed on the lid: “Jerusalem” and “Yerushalem”. On the front panel– a key hole. The inner side of the lid is inlaid with glass. The drawer has a removable shelf, divided into compartments, some of which have a cover.
Height: 12 cm, width: 27.5 cm, depth: 22.8 cm. Fair condition, cracks and glue marks, handles of drawers are broken, key is missing. The Upper left corner of the glass is cracked.

Box with a hidden locking mechanism. Jerusalem, [late 19th century]. Printed illustration in Meir Gur-Aryeh's style, added at the beginning of the 20th century.

The word "Jerusalem" is printed on the cover in a black frame. Later, most probably, silhouettes of a camels' convoy and a palm tree have been added, in Gur-Aryeh's "Bezalel" style. On the front panel appear Latin digits from 1 to 7 with carvings in the wood which portray the digits as an upright row of books.
A special mechanism helps drawing out part of the bottom panel which opens as a drawer with a key. This releases book number 4 and a key hole is revealed. The inner side is covered with a red cloth and a mirror.
Height: 12 cm, width: 13 cm, depth: 10.5 cm. Good condition, mechanism is functioning, minor white paint marks on the cover.

Thin wood plaques, acrylic paints, fabric ribbon and metal clasp.
When the fan is spread a painting is revealed portraying in the center the Dome of the Rock (not gilded) and additional structures. A decorative vegetal pattern appears on the sides. On the left side, in red letters and blue and white background appears an ink stamp:"Jerusalem". On the reverse appears an ink stamp of "American Colony Hotel": " Fr. Vester and Co. the American Colony Store. Jerusalem".
Max. length: 34 cm, good condition.

This bag was made as a souvenir from Jerusalem in the first half of the 20th century. The embroidery is simple and similar to the centerpiece of Palestinian dresses. Olive wood handles with the inscription: "Jerusalem", attached to the bag.

Crocheted skullcap with the caption "Jerusalem". Eretz Israel, late 19th century.
The skullcap is knitted in red, green, white and black threads with a fringe in its center. In the late 19th century such skullcaps were attached to straps and were used as souvenir purses from Eretz Israel.

1. Wooden pencil case with silhouette decorations in a style characteristic of Meir Gur Aryeh. Silhouettes of pioneers (Halutzim) with shovels and trees and the inscription "Souvenir from Eretz Israel Yerushalem". Length: 21 cm, height: 3.8 cm, depth: 6 cm.
2-5. Four nib pens. On one of the pens appears an image of the Herzliya Hebrew Gymnasium with the inscription "Tel Aviv" (cracked). Length: ca. 15 cm.
