Large "Shiviti", with Kabbalistic motifs and letter combinations for protection and safeguard. Herat, West Afghanistan / Jerusalem, [early 20th century]. Writer: Mashiach Ashgari (Ashjari?).

In the center five Psalms are written in the shape of large "Menorahs" and in the shape of Stars of David. On the right and left side appear illustrations of Tablets of the Law with the Ten Commandments, Stars of David (with "Zion"), Torah Crowns, two Hamsas consisting of verses and the "Priestly Benediction" and various letter combinations. On the lower part, writer's signature and dedication: "Young Mashiach Ashgari, the small, dust under the feet of the wise…written for the well-being of …ben…Menashe" (Hebrew).
54X39 cm. Fair condition. Folding marks and creases, damage to text. Some stains, tears, fastened with acidic adhesive tape.
