Large "Shiviti", illustrated by hand. Zakho, "Ashur" (Iraqi Kurdistan), 1932.
Black ink and paint on paper.
In the center "Lamenatze'ach Beneginot Shir Mizmor" shaped as a Menorah, with the title "Shiviti" above it. Additional verses and words of protection surround the Menorah. On both sides of the Menorah appear stair ramps and hand palms holding chains ending with two Temple vessels. A decoration depicting the Dome of the Rock appears at the base of the Menorah, inscribed: "Mekom Mikdash BeYerushalayim". In addition appear the Western Wall and Rachel's Tomb. Illustrations of the Tablets of the Law and three crowns appear on top. Decorated with vegetal and geometric patterns.
On lower part, from right to left, appears a dedication: "Zot HaMenorah … dedicated … Darwish ben Hiti…" (Hebrew).
Approx. 74X55 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains and dampstains, folding marks, creases and tears. Damages to ink. Framed. Unexamined out of frame.
