Mimeographed typescript on thin paper.
The Haggadah opens with excerpts from the traditional text, and continues on a humoristic note, describing the kibbutz members' "enslavement" to their land. Later, it refers to the hardships endured by Jews in the diaspora throughout the ages, relates the hopes of their revival and redemption in the land of Israel, parodies the liturgical poem Dayenu, celebrates the kibbutz's offspring, and ends with quotes from the Song of Songs and the prophecy of Isaiah.
[1] front cover, [13] ff., [1] back cover (blank), 29 cm. Good-fair condition. Thin, transparent paper. Fold lines and creases. Stains. Minor closed and open tears, mostly to margins and back cover.
Rare. Not listed in OCLC and the NLI catalogue, nor in Steiner's "Kibbutz Haggadot" catalogue.
Handwritten, non-traditional Haggadah, with illustrations. Opens with a celebration of spring, and relates the story of the Exodus from Egypt, based on the traditional text (with various additions). Significant parts are dedicated to the war of independence, illegal Jewish immigration, and the struggles to establish the state of Israel. The text praises the Jewish soldiers and their fallen comrades, and ends with the Palmach anthem. Front cover features an image of a Jewish settlement in Palestine; back cover with the symbol of the Palmach.
The 3rd battalion was established in 1944, and as the war of independence broke out, it was the Palmach's largest. The battalion operated in the Galilee region, and took part in the fierce battles over the control of "Nabi Yusha" police fortress, which were fought shortly after Passover, 1948.
[1] front cover, 24 pp., 24 cm. Good-fair condition. Middle sheet (pp. 11-14) detached. Stains and minor blemishes. Minor tears and open tears to cover. Cover almost completely detached; reinforced with transparent adhesive tape.
Passover Haggadah, "based on the Haggadah with modern Passover interpretations". [USA:] Sephardic Jewish Center, [Second half of the 20th century]. Hebrew and English.
Mimeographed Haggadah, written mostly in English, containing excerpts from the Hebrew text (English text typewritten; Hebrew text handwritten, and occasionally inaccurate).
The English version is comprised of carefully selected, abbreviated texts, translated from the traditional Haggadah and various commentaries; some excerpts are given in the original Hebrew, and the text is traditional in spirit. The Haggadah closes with a memorial for the 6 million Jewish victims of the holocaust, and the lyrics of "HaTikvah" – Israel's national anthem.
[1], 9 ff., 28 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains, closed and open marginal tears.
Not listed in OCLC nor in the NLI catalogue.
The Haggadah, which tells the story of the War of Independence and the establishment of the State of Israel, was written by the author Aharon Megged while in reserve-duty service in the chief education and culture office, and was initiated by the Minister of Education Ben-Zion Dinur. Ten thousand copies were printed and the soldiers were meant to read the text on the eve of Independence Day. The religious units and the military rabbinate objected and the Haggadahs were destroyed.
[20] leaves, 20 cm. Good condition. A few stains and creases. Very small tears along the edges of two leaves. Stamp on the front cover.
Provenance: The Rimon Family Collection.
