Two printed booklets of regulations and contracts for purchase of plots in the new Jerusalem neighborhoods outside the walls. Completed and signed by hand. Jerusalem, 1889-1909.
1. The Sha'arei Chesed society for construction of houses in Jerusalem. Printed booklet, with the society's objectives and regulations. Jerusalem, Sivan 1909. [Lowy & Partners printing press].
This booklet was published in honor of the construction of the Sha'arei Chesed neighborhood that same year. On the last leaf, following the regulations of the society is a printed "membership certificate" completed by hand with the name of the member R. Alter Menachem Mendel Mendelson. The certificate is signed by the gabaim and managers of the society including leading Jerusalem rabbis: the signature of R. Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, signatures of R. Eliyahu Romm, R. Aryeh Leib Bahararad, R. Avraham Aharon HaLevi Prague, R. Yechiel Michel Tikochinsky, and others.

Ketubah recording the marriage of the groom, Chaim ben Meir, and the bride, Zahara, daughter of "The Most Excellent Scholar and Dayan" Rabbi Eliyahu [HaTzorfati]. Fes, Morocco, Friday, 15 Adar 5528 [1768].
The text of the ketubah details the family lineage of the bride, up until the Chacham Rabbi Vidal HaTzorfati (the first).
Frame made up of the verses of the "Priestly Benediction", "A Woman of Valor" and more. Witness signatures (curly rabbinical signatures, undeciphered). Inscribed at the bottom of the ketubah is the text of "Shir La'Ma'alot".
29.5X45 cm. Fair-poor condition. Numerous stains and dampstains. Tears, with damage to text. Creases and folding marks. Some of the tears have been professionally repaired.
This is the earliest known Ketubah from Fes, and one of the earliest Ketubot from Morocco.

Handwritten on parchment, in a decorative framework with leaves, flowers and fruit, characteristic of ketubot from Ancona of the period. Witnesses' signatures: Raphael Meshulam of Pesaro, Yosef Piazza.
The Hebrew words "Be'Rishon" ("On the first") and "Tish'a" ("Nine") at the top of the ketubah were erased by the scribe and rewritten, as explained at the bottom of the document (in Hebrew): "The words 'On the first' and the word 'Nine', written and erased, have been rewritten over the erasure, and all is true and reaffirmed".

Handwritten on parchment. The ketubah text mentions the notary who drew up the contract, "Notaro Carlo Cuirzzi". Witnesses' signatures: Rabbi Shmuel Zvi Margaliot, Av Beit Din, Mordecai Shmuel Masilyi, and another signature in Italian. Rabbi Shmuel Zvi Margaliot (Otzar HaRabanim 19628, 1848-1922) - born in Galicia, studied in Buchach with R. Shmuel Yissachar Stark, was ordained as rabbi by the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau and earned a Ph.D. in philosophy and Semitic languages from the universities at Leipzig and Breslau in Germany. In the years 1887-1890 he served as rabbi of the Hesse Nassau community in Hamburg, Germany. In 1890 he moved to Florence, where he served as rabbi until his death. In 1899 he moved the Rome-based theological seminary (Collegio Rabbinico Italiano) to Florence. Originally the seminary was founded in Padua by Samuel David Luzzato.
