Ketubah recording the marriage of the groom, Yehuda ben Shlomo, and the bride, Sarah bat David. Herat, Afghanistan, Heshvan 5642 [1881].
At the top of the ketubah are five gates. Three are illustrated with vases holding flowers; the other two feature blessings and verses. At the bottom are five empty medallions. The ketubah is masterfully decorated in a richly colorful style. Witnesses' signatures.
42.5X58 cm. Fair condition. Tears, with damage to text. Folding marks. Stains, some dark. Part of the text is faded. Ink traces to margins (resulting from the folding of the ketubah).
