The Jewish Question, by R.B. Raphael. Ephraim Deinard printing press, [Newark], 1893. A separate title page for the second part "Nachlat Avot".
A book dealing with the state of Jews in general, and their status in Christian and anti-Semitic societies. The essay criticizes the Reform movement in Judaism. Preceding the title page is a folded plate with a poem by the author - "Zion and America", about the attitude of American Jews to Eretz Israel. Above it appears an illustration of a wandering Jew, a Torah on his back, facing America, and in the background is an Eretz Israeli view with camels and palm trees. The author, disciple of Lithuanian Yeshivot, immigrated to America and was a member of "Hovevei Zion" in Pittsburg.
[1] folded plate, 224, VIII pp, 22.5 cm. Good condition. Stains and creases. Tears to binding and to folded plate. Ex-library copy.

Explication of an Engraving Called the Origin of the Rites and Worship of the Hebrews, Together with Remarks on Creation, and a Brief Account of some Observances and their Symbolical Signification. "From the original French of D. Rosenberg, of Paris. With additional remarks and investigations, notes and diagrams, by Max Wolff". New-York: Printed At the Office Of The "jewish Messenger", 1859. English. Additional title page in Hebrew.
In 1851 a lithograph was published in France - "Origin of the Rites and Worship of the Hebrews". The lithograph, published by Dr. D. Rosenberg of Paris, was to a large extent based on "Sefer Yetzira" and included many Kabbalistic motifs. The book is accompanied by an illustration - Table of the Ten Kabbalistic Spheres - and Hebrew poems by Wolff. This is the first book with original Hebrew poetry printed in the USA. 10, [1], 11-112 pp, 18 cm. Good condition. Stains. Tears to two leaves. Damages to binding.
