Booklet printed in honor of Josef Ritter von Wertheimer on his "Golden Wedding Anniversary". The booklet includes biographic details and information about the children's educational institutes which he founded; two illustrations, portrait of Wertheimer and an illustration of the Jewish kindergarten in Vienna.
Josef Rieter von Wertheimer (1800-1887), son of a wealthy Jewish family in Vienna. Educator and founder of a chain of kindergartens. Founded the first kindergarten in Vienna in 1830 as well as a society for rehabilitation of released prisoners and juvenile delinquents; was involved with the Jewish community and one of the leaders advocating emancipation for Austrian Jews. Was granted, in 1868, a decoration and a noble rank by the emperor. 16 pp, 18.5 cm. Good condition. Ink-stamps. Minor tear and creases to corners of cover and to leaves. Rare. Bibliographically unknown.
