The "Hassidic Song Festival" was a song contest integrating original melodies with verses from biblical sources. The contest was held during the years 1969-1992. The Festival was initiated by the producer Miki Peled, following the Six-Day war. These days were characterized by a "sense of a miracle" and yearning for something deeply rooted. The Hassidic songs were widely spread amongst American and European Jews and led to the forming of a group which performed with much success in the "Hassidic Song Festival" outside of Israel. This resulted, in a way, in the development of the Hassidic music genre with singers like Mordechai Ben-David and Avraham Fried. Many Jewish American composers participated in the festival which was held in Israel (half of the winners). Amongst them is the singer Shlomo Carlebach who composed at least one song for each festival. This festival was an attempt to integrate Jewish tradition and Israeli music but was criticized by religious sections in Israeli society because of the participation of women in the festival.
118 photos of the Hassidic Song Festival participants.
The photos were taken at most of the festivals. Including photos of performers as well as photos taken behind the scenes. This lot also includes programs of the festival and five negatives for a poster.

Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, a singer, player and Jewish American Hassidic composer, a spiritual teacher and story-teller. Rabbi Carlebach, known as the "Dancing Rabbi" was the messenger and founder of a musical genre named after him and was considered as one of the leading Hassidic singers in the 20th cent. Carlebach, an exciting singer and rabbi, who succeeded in filling up halls with followers, was a charismatic and admirable leader who represented a way of life based on love and closeness, honesty and simplicity, penetrating hearts and loving all Jews whoever they were. His singing, belief and life manners were based on these principles. Like other contemporary artists he played the guitar and grew long hair. Embracing and kissing was an inseparable part of his personality. Carlebach left a rich spiritual and musical legacy and his music is played in many synagogues to the present day. He did not gain much respect during his life and was even a subject of dispute: the orthodox did not consider him as a rabbinical character even though his songs penetrated into this public. His extrovert personality made religious people feel uncomfortable – the long hair, the guitar, the physical touch all of these were unpleasant for religious people. However, exactly those traits attraced and excited parts of the young generation and made them admire Carlebach, follow his beliefs and attend his performances. Amongst his admirers are people from all sections of Israeli society and even many non-Jews. His memory is perpetuated in numerous fashions.
Rabbi Carlebach created many albums, almost half of them during performances.
28 photos of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach. Including: portraits, performances, with other artists. In addition, a rare encounter in a party with the actors of the musical "Hair" (among them Zvika Pik and Gaby Shushan).

The importance of the character of "Kazablan" lies in the presentation of an 'oriental' in a pleasant way. The character implied stereotypes as the "good hearted bad guy" but was a humane and round character, experiencing conflicts – whether to integrate into society productively or continue and walk around as a deprived person in Jaffa's "no man's land".
Two photos and 63 negatives in color of Yehoram Ga'on. Photos of a variety of roles in films; photos and several negatives as "Kazablan", in the filming location and the premiere screening of the film.

Uri Zohar was born in Tel-Aviv in 1935. Zohar was an entertainer, an actor and a prominent film director until he decided to become religious in the late 1970s. Zohar started his career in the Nahal Military Band in the 1950s and shortly afterwards he stood out as a first-class actor and entertainer. In the 1960s Zohar and his friend Arik Einstein gathered some artists and Bohemian figures, and formed a group named "Havurat Lul". This group created numerous skits considered until today as the peak of Israeli satire and entertainment. In the early 1970s Zohar directed the films "Metzizim" and "Eynaim Gedolot" considered as milestones in Israeli cinema. In these films Zohar examined his own way of life and criticized harshly the hedonistic society of Tel-Aviv. A year prior to starting the process of becoming religious, Zohar won the Israel Prize, but refused to accept it.
Early in 1977 Zohar retired from the world of show business. He joined the "Or Sameach" Yeshiva and later studied in Yeshivat "Aderet Eliyahu" with Rabbi Yitzchak Shlomo Zilberman, and was ordained as rabbi several years later. Zohar is one of the leaders of "Lev LaAchim" organization which spreads the values of Judaism.

Ben-Amotz was a colorful, charismatic, fascinating and original person. Ben-Amotz was a brave and direct writer, sometimes harsh and expressed his thoughts and ideas even when they were very unusual. He intelligently shattered conventions and myths, freed the Hebrew language of its heavy formality and adopted street-language as a legitimate one. Ben-Amotz contributed to Israeli humor and was a political and social activist whose ideas were far from falling into conventional ideas. He supported marginal movements such as the Black Panthers. Ben-Amotz was also a collector of Israeli memorabilia and used to collect in streets and markets various objects during a period when no one attributed any value to them.
When Dan Ben-Amotz was diagnosed with cancer and realized that his death was approaching, he organized a farewell party to all of his friends. All the who's who of the culture and entertainment circles attended the party, sang, held speeches and said good bye. This party, as many felt, was a farewell party not only for Dan Ben-Amotz but for a generation of creators, entertainers, writers and public figures and an important and fascinating chapter in the history of Israel coming to its end.
If details in the biography of Dan Ben-Amotz written by Amnon Dankner are accurate, then Dan Ben-Amotz had some violent, cruel and disgusting elements in his personality. But even if this is true, and in spite of the fact that during the years some of his ideas and writings lost their charm, Dan Ben-Amotz is still one of the most influential characters in the cultural and entertainment scenes in Israel.
7 photos of the 1970s. Ben-Amotz with Shaike Ophir, barefoot in an exhibition, with Benny Amdursky, with Georges Mustaki. A photo from the film Matzor, etc.
