From the introduction: "In this little periodical we are trying to ask forgiveness for we have sinned – we let the Hebrew word become dumb in this metropolis of Jews in central Europe, from the days of Smolenskin's 'HaShachar'". Writers: Hugo Bergman, Zalman Shneur, Gershom Shofman, David Vogel, Zvi Diesendruk and Uri Zvi Greenberg. [2], 32 pp, 23 cm. Good condition. Stains on the cover and minor damages to margin of cover and leaves. Ink stamps. Cover partly detached.

Opposite title page is a nice acrostic dedication in the handwriting of Dov Berish Luria of Yekaterinoslav (Dnipropetrovsk), to his friend Avraham. At the beginning of the book are ownership notations by Luria from 1878. X, 290 pages, 16.5 cm. Good condition. Missing one title leaf. Stains. Minute moth damage. Cutoff margins. New binding.

A comprehensive study on the subject of Hebrew literature. The first and third volume deal with rabbis and Jewish authors, and contain a list of names (Hebrew and Latin). The second and fourth volume deal with the Bible, Talmud and Kabala. At the beginning of the first volume, opposite the title page is an etching of a library. At the beginning of the second and fourth volume appear etchings of the author's portrait.
Johann Christoph Wolf (1683-1739) was a Hebraist and collector from German descent. In 1712, he was appointed professor of literature and Oriental languages in the University of Hamburg. Wolf devoted time to research Hebrew literature, especially the collection of David ben Avraham Oppenheim. These four volumes of Bibliotheca Hebraea are based on this study. A complete set of four volumes, 22 cm. Good condition. Stains. Restored bindings, with leather spines.
