Mishneh Torah by the Rambam, with Hasagot HaRaavad and Maggid Mishneh, and the Kesef Mishneh commentary by R. Yosef Karo. Venice: Bragadin, 1574-1575. Two volumes. Divisional title pages.
First edition of the Kesef Mishneh commentary, most of which was printed during the lifetime of the author. On the title page of Part III, R. Yosef Karo is mentioned with a blessing for the living; whilst on the title page of Part IV, he is already given a blessing for the deceased. At the end of Part IV, there is an afterword from the proofreader, R. Chizkiyah Fano, informing of the passing of the author R. Yosef Karo during the course of the printing (on 13th Nissan 1575). This is followed by a poem composed by R. Avraham Hayun, disciple of the author, in praise of the Kesef Mishneh composition.
Signatures of censors on last leaf of third volume and second to last leaf of fourth volume.
Two volumes. Volume III: [20], 451, [1] leaves. Volume IV: [10], 135, 137-297, [9] leaves. Lacking leaf 136. 30-30.5 cm. Several leaves dark. Overall fair condition, some leaves in fair-good condition. Stains, including dampstains (heavy stains to several leaves). Wear to some leaves. Worming, affecting text. Tears and open tears in several places. Early leather bindings, damaged and worn (binding of volume III detached, with heavy wear, open tears to both sides and spine, and binding of volume IV partially detached).
