Description of the journey of Johan Albercht de Mandelslo to Persia and then to India (including interesting descriptions of the Mogul Empire), Sri Lanka, Madagascar and the Cape of Good Hope, including a description of China and Japan.
The work includes numerous engravings (46 plates, some of them double, and additional engravings incorporated in the text) - maps, landscapes, figures and different sites, including: a large folded engraving of Tokyo; Bandar Abbas (Gamron), Surat, Goa and more; engravings depicting London, Amsterdam and Brussels; a portrait of Johan Albrecht de Mandelslo; and additional engravings.
[30] pp, 808 columns (two columns per page), [72] pp, 36 cm. Good condition. Original, fine leather binding with damage and tears to margins and spine (front cover partly detached). The first signature and one of the engravings are detached. Stains. Bookplate on inner part of front binding. Inserted in cardboard slipcase.
