One early "shanah tovah" greeting card and two early "shanah tovah" postcards. Germany, France, and Palestine, late 19th and early 20th centuries.
1. "Shanah tovah" postcard, undivided back, printed in gilt ink, with new year's greetings in Hebrew and French. Postmark on back dated September 26, 1889.
Approx. 9X14 cm.
2. "Shanah tovah" postcard, undivided back, issued by "Old Age Homes Jerusalem…" With new year's greetings in Hebrew and German, intended for donors to the institution. Postmark on back dated 1902.
10X13.5 cm.
3. Elegant, chromolithographic "shanah tovah" greeting card. Printed by Rosenblatt, Frankfurt am Main [ca. early 20th century]. The Site of the Temple appears in the center, surrounded by greetings in Hebrew for the New Year. The moshavot Rishon LeZion and Rehovot are depicted in illustrations on inward-folding flaps. When folded, the flaps make up the front of the greeting card, bearing greetings in German.
