"Parochet" (Torah ark curtain) and "kaporet". (Central Europe, apparently Germany], [August 1830].
Velvet "parochet" and "kaporet", adorned with gold and silver embroidery, a Torah crown and a bouquet of branches. Embroidered on the "parochet": "Keep the Shabbat because it is holy to you… donated by the women of valor of our community on 'Parshat Ekev', 1830". The dedication on "Parshat Ekev" helps to determine the exact date of the donation of the "parochet" and "kaporet" to the synagogue, on "Parshat Ekev", August 1830. The expression "Women of valor" possibly hints to the existence of the Jewish community's women's association or alternatively to the community women in general. Embroidered on the "kaporet" is the verse "And he placed the 'kaporet' on the ark from above".
"Parochet" 54X112 cm, "kaporet" 32X156 cm. Fair-good condition. Tears and various damages to the velvet fabric. Enclosed are two detached fabric straps.
