The monarchy of Saul, the first king of Yeshurun, six acts, by Joseph HaEfrati of Troplowitz. Published by Anton Schmidt. Vienna, 1794. Hebrew.
Joseph HaEfrati of Troplowitz (1770-1804), a Hebrew poet and playwright, one of Moses Mendelssohn's disciples. The play describes the struggle between Saul and David, and had been described as "the first Hebrew worthwhile play of the period of Enlightment". Small edition in leather binding. Two engravings.
[12], 95 leaves, [2] engraved plates, 16 cm. Irregular pagination. Good condition. Foxing. Wear at corners and spine of binding.

Six issues of the periodical "Rimon", printed concurrently with the Yiddish version "Milgroim". "Rimon" was the first Hebrew periodical dealing systematically with plastic art. The periodical, as well as other publications by the same publishing house, was a model of impressive and meticulous high quality printing. Featuring works by leading artists and writers such as A. Lissitzky, Tchaikov, Budko; Bialik, Agnon, Tchernichovsky, and others.
