A souvenir pin from the Israeli Air Force to new immigrant children of the Ma'abarot (Absorption Camps). [Israel, 1952].
The pin is shaped like a small passenger jet, inscribed "Children's Camp" (Hebrew), with the right wing dated 5712 [1952]. Appearing on the left wing is a tiny Star of David.
Presumably, the pin was given as a souvenir by the Israeli Air Force to new immigrant children, following a large-scale relief operation – "Operation Ma'abarot". The operation was carried out by the Israeli Air Force and Medical Corps and involved the reconstruction of the Absorption Camps that were damaged during the winter of 1951 and the establishment of special camps for children. The operation was announced to be complete in March 1952.
Approx. 25X20 mm. Good condition.
Provenance: The Morton Leventhal Collection, New York.
