The book Kaf HaChaim, containing ethics, laws and customs. By Rabbi Chaim Palagi, Sauuuuuulonika, [1859]. First edition. The number 12 appears on the title-page's side, a serial number for the author's publications.
On the title-page: early dedication: "To the Greek Kollels, for the Rabbi…" late signatures of Rabbi Yitzchak Badhav, of Jerusalem's rabbis, and Rabbi Asher ben Moradinoff.
Many glosses, probably by two separate writers. The glosses deal with kabbalic customs (based on the book Shaar Hakavanot) practiced in the kabbalistic Beth El Yeshiva in Jerusalem; written by one of the kabbalists. In one of the glosses, the writer mentions his teacher the Hon Yosef, and in a different gloss he mentions his father.
[As to the identity of the author of the glosses, we assume that it was perhaps Rabbi Avraham Chaim Pinso, one of the leading sages of Beth El and Jerusalem, who died at a very old age in 1896. See enclosed material about him]. Rabbi Yosef Zamiro (d. 1843) was one of Jerusalem's sages and community leaders. He printed his book Hon Yosef in Livorno before leaving on a mission to Jerusalem in 1828 – see about him in enclosed material.
8, [1], 307 leaves, 15 cm. Good condition, Good condition, few moth holes on last leaves. Most of the glosses are slightly cropped. Old binding with leather spine, worn.
