Jewelry Box Made of Olive Wood – Shaped as the Dome of the Rock

Elegant jewelry box. Eretz Israel, [late 19th century].
Olive wood; printing; bone; cloth lining.
Octagonal wooden box with a double lid: lower lid, octagonal (hinged; hinge is missing) and upper lid shaped as a dome (removable). Delicate lines are engraved on the dome, topped with a decoration made of bone. The inscription "Jerusalem" is printed on the octagonal lid. Body of the box is carved with fine details depicting the arches decorating the outside of the structure and its openings. Height: 16.5 cm, width and length: 15.5X15.5 cm. Fair-good condition. Handwritten signature within the dome: Jerusalem. Hinge is missing. Cracks to dome repaired with glue (inside). Slight damages to wood.
