Davar, the newspaper of Palestinian workers, supplement for children. Issues 1-40, 42-51, 53. [Tel-Aviv], Tishre 1931 – Tevet 1936.
The supplement for children was considered the first attempt of "Davar" newspaper in children's journalism. It was edited by the writer Yitzchak Yatziv and was accompanied by Nachum Gutman's illustrations. It published works by some of the leading Hebrew writers: Chaim Nachman Bialik, Shaul Tchernichovsky, Nathan Alterman, Avraham Shlonsky and others. The supplement obtained many admirers among the children of Palestine and five years later became an independent newspaper - "Davar LiYeladim" (Davar for Children), which influenced the format of children's newspapers in Israel for years to come.
This is a collection of all the issues of the supplement except for two (issues 41 and 52), bound together in a new, hard binding, with an impression on the spine.
Enclosed: an additional copy of issue 34.
A volume containing 51 issues (8 pp per issue), 40.5 cm. Good-fair condition. Pages 1-4 of the first issue are missing and replaced with a photocopy. A few stains, creases and fold lines. Tears along the edges and fold lines, some of them open (most of them restored with acid-free tape). Stamps on several pages.
