Two tallit (prayer shawl) bags for a bar-mitzvah boy ("sachara d'tzitzit"). Morocco, beginning of 20th century.
Silver plates, cut, sawn and engraved; wood; blue velvet fabric.
1. On the front plate is the name of the boy: "E.H. (Eved Hashem) Shlomo bar Chaviv Asulin" flanked by ornamentation of birds, branches, leaves and Stars of David. On the back plate: "Honor your father and your mother", "Your father will be happy and your mother will rejoice", "Nice and pleasant son", "Magen David" and "If I forget you Jerusalem, my right hand will be forgotten".
2. On the front plate is the name of the boy: "E.H. Michael bar Yonah Ebn Harush" flanked by ornamentation of branches, leaves, Stars of David and geometrical adornments. On the back is a central flower-like plate with four small corner plates.
