Letter for emissary in the city of Janina (Greece) from Rabbis of Hebron. 1921.
"Emissaries from Hebron have not set foot in your city since 1909…" the letter goes on to write of how assistance from all other countries was cut off since the World War.
Signed and stamped by the Sephardic rabbis: Rabbi Saliman Menachem Mani, Chief Rabbi. Rabino Meir Franko. Rabbi Meir Shmuel Castel. Rabino Chanoch Chason.
Rabbi Saliman Menchem Mani (1850-1924) was born in Baghdad to his father Rabbi Eliyahu Mani, author of Siach Yitzchak. Son-in-law of Rabbi Moshe Ferrara. Member of the Sdeh Chemed's Beit Din, and his successor as Rabbi of Hebron.
Rabino Meir Franko (1866-1931), the faithful assistant of the Sdeh Chemed, and dayan in his Beit Din. He served as community rabbi in Hebron. His Torah thoughts were printed in his father's book Sha'arei Rachamim, and in Torah MiTzion and HaMe'asef journals.
Rabbi Meir Shmuel Castel was born in Hebron in 1860. Member of the S'deh Chemed's Beit Din. Murdered in Hebron Massacre, 1929.
Rabino Chanoch Chason was born in Hebron, 1867, and killed with his wife in the Hebron Massacre. The rioters burned his writings.
