A Halachic verdict, Arpud (Morocco), Elul 1937.
The Halachic verdict is written in Judeo-Arab and in Rabbinical Hebrew: “[=and they have come to a Din Torah and have appeared in front of the great Rabbi, Rabbi Israel Abuchatzeira] one says this while the other says that, and at the end of all appeals and mockeries between the two…”. Signed by the members of the Rabbinical court Rabbi Machluf Elzera and Rabbi Shimon Abuchatzeira (ornate rabbinical signatures). The Baba Sali wrote in his holy handwriting below their words “I am keeping a record of those signatures… Israel Abuchatzeira”.
Rabbi Yisrael Abuchatzeira, the "Baba Sali", (1889-1984) son of Rabbi Mas'ud of Tafillat (Morocco), son of Rabbi Ya'akov Abuchatzeira. Brilliant in the seen and in the hidden, holy and pure from his youth. Served as chief Rabbi of Arpud and its vicinity. In 1950 moved to Jerusalem and returned to Morocco in 1957. In 1964 returned to Eretz Israel. Settled in Netivot. Distinguished people turned to him for advice and prayer. His grandchildren are the famous Abuchatzeira Rabbis.
Rabbi Shimon Abuchatzeira, Dayan in Arpud and rabbi of a Jerusalem neighborhood, outstanding Torah scholar and as modest as Hillel, spent many years studying with his relative, the Admor Rabbi Meir Abuchatzeira (“Baba Meir”).
