Manuscript, homilies for Shabbatot (Bereshit and Shemot) and festivals. [Hungary, ca. 1869]. Yiddish and Hebrew.
The manuscript was presumably authored by R. Mordechai Wiener of Pressburg, author of Maamar Mordechai. The poem on the final leaf is an acrostic, spelling out "Mordechai Wiener". Ownership inscription in German dated 1870, signed by Mordechai Wiener (in German and Hebrew). Other ownership inscriptions.
R. Mordechai Wiener (ca. 1855-1927), student in the yeshiva of the Ktav Sofer in Pressburg. Outstanding Torah scholar. Author of Maamar Mordechai on Aggadah. Some of the Torah thoughts in the present manuscript may have been published there.
[90] leaves. 20 cm. Fair-good condition. Wear and tears. Detached leaves and gatherings. Original binding, worn and detached, without spine.
