Characters from the Harlem neighborhood in New York - 23 original lithographs (out of 24) by Al (Albert) Hirschfeld, with accompanying text by William Saroyan. Copy no. 929 out of 1,000 numbered copies. The lithographs were printed by hand on high-quality paper (they are attached to the book pages at their left margins). The book has an elegant cloth-covered binding with a color illustration on its front cover (hand-colored).
The illustrations of American caricaturist Al (Albert) Hirschfeld (1903-2003) were published in dozens of newspapers and magazines (he was on the staff of the New York Times for 75 years). Hirschfeld was famous mostly for his portraits of Broadway and Hollywood stars and the American bohemian scene.
[5] leaves + [23] lithographs (each lithograph preceded by a page with the title of the work). One lithograph missing. Book - 46 cm. Good general condition. Stains. Damage to binding, with tears to spine and stains (dark stains on the front cover).
