Handwritten lengthy erudite Torah letter, by the Ga’on Rabbi Shimon Yehudah HaCohen Shkop, including his signature. [Grodna, 1931].
The letter contains comments on the book Divrei Yerucham (Biłgoraj, 1931).From his disciple, Rabbi Yerucham Asher Warhaftig [for additional information related to him seeprevious items and next item]: “In his book chapter 11, 12 he presents the sayings of Rabbi Eliezer Gordon, his response to his question on the Ktzot HaChoshen…”.
Rabbi Shimon Yehudah HaCohen Shkop (1860-1940, Otzar HaRabbanim 19962), disciple of Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik of the Volozhin yeshiva who instructed him in the intricate and deep methodologies of Torah. At age 24 he became Rosh Mativta in the yeshiva of Telz [established by his uncle, Rabbi Eliezer Gordon], where he taught his method of study, an approach which captivated the entire Torah world until this very day. Among his prominent disciples during that period: Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman, and receiver of the letter Rabbi Yerucham Asher Warhaftig. In 1920 was requested to head the Sha’ar HaTorah Yeshiva in Grodna. Among his books : Sha’arei Yosher, Ma’arechet HaKinyanim and Chidushei Rabbi Shimon Yehudah HaCohen.
