Ahavat Shalom, Chassidic discourses on the Torah portions, by Rebbe Menachem Mendel Hager of Kosov – founder of the Vizhnitz and Kosov Chassidic dynasties. Lviv, [1833]. First edition.

Rebbe Menachem Mendel Hager (1768-1826) was the son of R. Yaakov Koppel Chassid, cantor in the Beit Midrash of the Baal Shem Tov and member of his inner circle of disciples. Disciple of the early Chassidic masters R. Elimelech of Lizhensk and R. Tzvi Hirsh of Nadvorna.
Stamp on title page: "Book and Talletim shop – Yosef Ashkenazi, Satu Mare" (stamp of the store of R. Efraim Yosef Dov Ashkenazi [1912-2002], close attendant and assistant of Rebbe Yoel of Satmar for sixty years).

[4], 131 leaves. Extra copy of leaf 47 (with minor typographic variations). 21.5 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains, including dampstains. Tears, including minor marginal open tears to title page, and minor tears to final leaf with slight damage to text, repaired with paper. Worming, slightly affecting text, repaired in part with paper. Stamps. New leather binding.

On title page, false imprint for Lviv: Jihdas Rosanis, 1802 and 5564. This type of falsification was common in Chassidic books printed in Galicia at that time, due to censorship restrictions and the persecution of Chassidim by the Haskalah movement.
