Four requests by Elias (Eliahu) Mauthner from Horritz (Bohemia) to receive approval to marry his fiancé, Barbar Hirsch, daughter of Heinrich Hirsch from Yung Bondlau. German.
1. Request from 9.3.1836 including a declaration that his father had died, a list of his wealth and that of his fiancé, and confirmation that both of them have a character reference, are faithful to the Jewish religion and not related to each other. On the reverse side: Response from the authorities dated 26.6.1836: “Application of the abovementioned cannot be answered until the tax debts of the deceased father have been clarified.”
2. Additional request from 16.6.1836 in the same matter, signed by Elias Mauthner.
3. Application to the tax authorities from 20.12.1836. Mauthner asserts that the tax offices verbally refused to issue him a license to hold a wedding. He indicates that he has savings of 300 Gulden in his possession, as he has been engaged for a year, has paid taxes regularly for 20 years and has made all the preparations for his wedding; he requests approval in writing that there is no legal prevention for him to hold a chuppah and marriage ceremony. Page 4 is the negative response from the office.
4. Additional application from the city or village of Santhaus (?), apparently where Mauthner settled as he was unable to get approval to marry and settle in Horritz where he was born.
Good condition, stained. Handwritten on thick paper. Stains.
