Three volumes: [9], 3-81 leaves. [1], 83-149 leaves; [1], 151-198 leaves. 15 cm. Good-fair condition, wear and stains. Elaborate leather bindings, with adornments and embossments, from 1900. This edition of Tikun Sofrim with the Seder HaHaftarot was originally bound in a different number of volumes. Some copies are in one volume. Some were bound in four or six volumes (see Bibliography of the Hebrew Book, no. 182414). These are three volumes from a set of six volumes.

Bible with English translation, edited by M. Friedlander. Society for Publishing Tanach Yerushalem Ltd., Jerusalem-London-New-York, [1953]. At the beginning of the book appears the signature of “Yichye Alsheich” who was awarded this book after winning first prize in the International Bible Contest which was held in 1961. Signatures by participants from various countries appear on the same leaf. Rabbi Yichye Alsheich Halevi (1915-1997), a Yemenite sage and one of the heads of Yeshivat Beit Alsheich in Sana’a. Immigrated to Israel in 1949 and was involved in strengthening observance of tradition among Yemenite Jews. Was known for being knowledgeable and won first prize in the International Bible Contest for adults. He was visited by many for a blessing and for advice. 22 cm. Overall good condition. · Enclosed is a letter handwritten by the General and politician, Minister Rechavam Ze’evi (Gandi) to Yehudah Ilan (producer of the International Bible Contest ceremony) praising Ilan for a “Perfectly organized ceremony”.

The Rothschild Miscellany. A remarkable facsimile published by the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, and Facsimile Editions, London, 1989. The Rothschild Miscellany, commissioned by Moshe ben Yekutiel Hacohen in 1479, is considered the most elegant of all Hebrew manuscripts. The Miscellany comprises more than 37 biblical and secular writings. Among the holy books are Psalms, Proverbs, Job, and a yearly prayer book which includes a Passover Haggadah (accompanied by textual illustrations for each festival or prayers for special occasions). The secular books include scientific and philosophical compositions. Copy no. 25 from an edition of 500 copies. An elaborate facsimile, leather binding, with a commentary volume. 24 cm. The Kennicott Bible. Exquisite facsimile published by Facsimile Editions, including a commentary volume. London, [1985]. A facsimile of an illustrated Spanish manuscript from 1476. The manuscript was commissioned by Don Solomon de Braga twenty years prior to the expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492. It was written and designed by Moshe Ibn Zabara and illustrated by Yosef Ibn Chaim whose style was influenced by Islamic art. The manuscript contains the whole Bible together with the Radak commentary and Sefer HaMichlol. The manuscript is known today as the “Kennicott Bible” after Benjamin Kennicot (1718-1783), an English clergyman and Hebraist, who acquired the manuscript for the Radcliffe Library in England. An exceptionally beautiful facsimile which was published after five and a half years of preparations. Printed on heavy paper of excellent quality especially produced to reproduce the appearance of the parchment on which the original manuscript was written. The gilding of the facsimile illustrations was done by hand, by seven artists who worked continuously for four months. Bound in an exquisite leather binding Copy no. 185 from an edition of 500 copies. Facsimile: [444] leaves, 30 cm. commentary volume: 97 pp. Very good condition. Both volumes are contained in a fine box, slightly damaged.
