Precationes Hebraicae (Hebrew prayers), with an abridged version of Sefer Amana. Isny (Germany). 1542. Paulus Fagius printing.
Version of the Birkat HaMazon in Hebrew with Latin translation and explanation followed by the "revised" Christian version of section of the Birkat HaMazon where Jewish motifs are replaced by Christian Messiah motifs. This is followed by a text in Hebrew and Latin: "The things that prevent Jews from believing in the Messiah", which is an abridged version of the missionary book Sefer Amana.
In 1537, the scholarly Christian and Hebraist Paulus Fagius founded a printing press with Hebrew lettering in Isny. Rabbi Eliyahu Ashkenazi "the young man" worked as a proofreader in the printing press and there he printed his work HaTishbi. This printing press produced Hebrew books and Latin translations of Hebrew texts. Among the Hebrew compositions was also a missionary book named Sefer Amana which is allegedly presented as a composition written by a Jew who proves the truth of the Christian religion and which was really written by Paulus Fagius himself.
[32] pages. 21 cm. Good condition. Spotting. Many handwritten inscriptions – in Latin. New leather binding.
Rare.
