Attractive copy in good condition. The original was printed without a title page. The first page is blank. Text begins on second page with the printed introduction of the Mechokek from the 22nd of MarCheshvan 1485, "Here in the city of Soncino". Opening words "Lama" and "Yedi'at" are ornamented.
Leaves [57-58] were torn from most copies due to the Christian censor. In this copy, these leaves exist in their entirety [see Bibliography Institute CD Listing 0109905].
Two colophons at end of book. The first has the date of the end of printing: "And its completion was here in Soncino in the province of Lombardy…on the 21st of the month of Tevet in the year Five Thousand Two Hundred and Forty from creation…". The second colophon is from "The servant disciple who worked on the book" who signs his name with the phrase [this is the source of its fame]: "From Zion comes forth Torah and G-d's word from Soncino".
Good condition. [108] leaves, 14 booklets: Booklets 1-2 of 8 leaves, Booklet 3 of 6 leaves, 4-13 of 8 leaves, 14 of 6 leaves. 27 cm. Good condition, stains (most leaves are clean), wide margins. Professionally restored tears to the first two leaves and to last leaf. Restored corners to several leaves [three leaves are damaged in the corner of the text]. A number of censorship erasing. New handsome leather binding, with gilt impression.
