Two of Flavius Josephus' works – "Antiquities" and "The War of the Jews". "Antiquities", which appears at the beginning of the volume, delineates the history of the Israelites since the creation of the world until the onset of the Great Revolt in 66 A.D. (two parts; each part contains ten chapters and a separate title page) and is accompanied by more than 150 woodcuts (including 23 full-page portraits of Jewish prophets). "The Wars of the Jews", which appears at the end of the volume (with a separate title page), describes the wars of the Jews against the Romans in Palestine.
All three title pages feature a small woodcut depicting Noah's Ark.
[24], 1-500, 509-544; 291 pp. Missing pp. 501-508. Four leaves (pp. 497-500, 509-512) were bound in twice. 22.5 cm. Fair condition. Stains and creases. Tears to edges, some open (paper restorations to first title page and an additional leaf). Significant worming (affecting text). Cardboard binding with vellum spine, damaged and worn, with tears; partly detached.
