Wooden box, souvenir from Jerusalem, Eretz Israel, [early 20th century] Walnut wood, printed. On the lid of the box is printed: “Jerusalem”. Inside the box are 21 small boxes with samples of herbs, seeds and plants from the Holy Land. Aniseed, cilantro, pistachio, etc. Next to them are 8 rectangular wooden pieces, samples of trees that grow in Eretz Israel: olive, almond, oak etc. Also included is a sample of Eretz Israel wool. Missing is a reed pen. Attached are 28 hand-written leaves which include a detailed explanation of each of these samples, their origins and the Bible references mentioning them.
