Two Torah pointers. Tunisia-Algeria or Jerusalem, [first half of 20th century].
Silver, cast and engraved.
Two Torah pointers of a form generally characteristic of pointers from Libya, Tunisia, and Algeria.
1. Movable upper joint, attached by hinge. Remainder of handle flat; upper segment tapering toward middle; lower segment wide at top and tapering toward wrist. Clenched hand with long, gently flexed (broken) index finger and cuffed wrist. Hebrew dedicatory inscription (partly erased): "To the [eternal] rest of… Haviva Olga Tamam […]." Reverse side of handle with vegetal and geometric patterns. Length: 26 cm. Tip of index finger broken off and missing.
2. Upper segment of handle cylindrical, with several joints, and surmounted by suspension ring. Lower segment flat, with medallion, tapering toward wrist. Clenched hand with long, gently flexed index finger and cuffed wrist. Engraved Hebrew dedicatory inscription: "To the [eternal] rest of the young man Hayyim Avrahami […] 1st of the Month of / Tevet 5671 [1911]". Length: 26 cm.
