Two press photographs recording the hanging of Jews in Baghdad, in 1969.
Early in 1969 fourteen Iraqi citizens were arrested for alleged espionage for Israel. Out of the fourteen nine were Jews, and all were sentenced to public execution. On 27.1.1969 the residents of Baghdad were called to attend the execution in the Liberation Square.
The photographs presented here depict four of the Jewish victims after the execution, two of them in each photograph. On their chests are signs, in Arabic, each listing the verdict, religion, age, profession and name: Sabah Haim, David Yehezkel Dlal, David Gali and Yehezkel Salach Yehezkel.
Press information notes are pasted on the back of the photographs (English), alongside ink-stamps: Associated Press Photo.
Approx. 20X15 cm. Good condition. Slight damage. Stains on verso. Tear reinforced with adhesive tape to top margins of one photograph (slightly affecting the photograph).
