A large toy locomotive made of sheet metal by the Shay toy company, for the festivals of the tenth anniversary of the State of Israel. [Israel, 1958].
A large, colorful toy locomotive, decorated with the emblems of the Twelve Tribes, flags of Israel, Stars of David and olive branches. The roof reads "Special to the 10th anniversary festivals" in English and Hebrew. The manufacturer's name, "Shay", in English and Hebrew appears on the backside.
The tenth anniversary of the State of Israel was marked by a series of events, ceremonies and festivals. During that year, the Tenth Anniversary Exhibition celebrating the achievements of the young state was held at "Binyanei Haumah", the International Bible Contest was held for the first time, and more.
Naturally, the festive atmosphere was fertile ground for manufacturers and the souvenir industry flourished. Alongside official souvenirs – a souvenir medal, postage stamps and the like – almost every possible object was designed in the spirit of the tenth anniversary festivals or was decorated with its logo, from household and practical objects such as cutlery, table lamps, Hanukkah lamps, ashtrays, pens, jewelry and so on, to paper souvenirs, food wrappers and toys.
Printed sheet metal. Approx. 8X10X50 cm. Fair-good condition. Rust and blemishes to paint. Bends. Custom display Acrylic Glass case; nailed to a wooden base.
