Three “Tnu Shira” leaves – blessings for reading Esther Scroll, in “Shiviti” format. Sana [Sanandij], Persian Kurdistan, [1940s-60s]. These leaves that open with the liturgical poem “Tnu Shira”, which is their title, feature a “LaMenatze’ach” Menorah and blessings for reading the Esther Scroll. Such leaves are known from the 19th century and it is possible that the leaves offered here were among the last ones composed according to this tradition which was common among Persian Jewry. The three leaves bear dedications:”I gave for…Ben Baruch…”, “I wrote this…for my friend…Sasson Ben Moshe…”, “I wrote this for my friend Habiballa Ben David…”. One leaf is dated 1949 and one is dated 1966. Average size: 35X50 cm. Overall good condition. Folding marks, stains and creases.
