Ten Postcards – Alfred Dreyfus' Rehabilitation Ceremony – 1906

Opening: $150
Unsold
Ten photographic postcards depicting Alfred Dreyfus' rehabilitation ceremony, his induction into the Legion of Honour after his acquittal in 1906, and his subsequent military service. France (one postcard published by Hermann Hillger, Berlin), [ca. 1906].
In July 21, 1906, Alfred Dreyfuss was finally acquitted, after being falsely accused of espionage. He was returned to military service, promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel, and was made a Chevalier (Knight) of the Legion of Honour, in a ceremony that was seen as the ultimate approval of his innocence. Most of the postcards in the present collection depict this ceremony; one postcard depicts Dreyfuss in the company of other servicemen several days later.
14X9 cm. Good condition. Some marginal blemishes to several postcards. One postcard postally used.
