Tefillin bag. [Europe], 1886. Velvet; cotton; embroidery threads; cardboard. Tefillin bag, made of velvet in two shades. Machine sewn and embroidered by hand. On the front appears an inscription: “Ve-ra’u kol amei…” (Book of Deuteronomy, 28:10) – verse interpreted by Chazal as related to head tefillin. A Torah crown is embroidered above the verse with two birds and a vegetal pattern on the sides. On the reverse: embroidered Star of David and the letters י1886 ) תרמ”ו) and a vegetal pattern on the lower corners. The bag is tied with a string. Length: 25 cm, width: 29 cm. Fair condition. Some unraveled parts of the embroidery. Worn cloth. Stains. String lacking.
