Splendid poems notebook in illustrated handwriting. Germany, 1859 or 1879.
Gift by Yossef Keesh to his father in law, Edward Alexander (Yossef) Keesh on his 70th birthday.
Two title pages: first title page in German, the second title page on parchment paper, in Hebrew, with a drawing of a woman's head. Written from right to left.
Notebook with thick leaves, calligraphic handwriting using square letter, Rashi script, Hebrew and German. Illustrated titles in different styles: "three buds in the world garden" illustrated with vegetal designs, "love" appears in a heart shape, "thank you" appears on a goblet; German titles are also set in illustrated frames.
Different verses and poetry full of love and gratitude:"your daughter, more precious than pearls , you have given me as a wife…I cannot pay my debt…" in Hebrew and German, page facing page.
The date 1879 appears on the first Hebrew title page and one of the titles within the notebooks includes the year 1859.
Cover of notebook on both its sides is decorated with flowery embroidery designs.
[19] leaves, 22 X 14.5 cm. Good condition. Leather spine. Slight damages to edges of binding. Stains on some leaves.
