Four plates – sketches for a Ten Israeli Lirot banknote, with figure of a scientist:
1. • Three design proposals (photos), the "face" of the banknote, portraying a scientist looking into a microscope (illustration different from the final one appearing on the banknote). One of the design proposals is signed on the reverse by the advisory committee members. • Design proposal (photo), the "face" of the banknote, with the final illustration, a more realistic one, which eventually appeared on the banknote. • A printed banknote in its final version. 15X8 cm.
2. • Original illustration of the scientist (Gouache on thick paper) as originally designed by Shamir Brothers. The scientist is seen next to a desk, looking into a microscope and writing in pen on a piece of paper. 16.5X14 cm. • Original illustration (Gouache and pasting on paper) of the banknote’s obverse. 29.5X16 cm, pass par- tout.
3. • Three preparatory photos for the scientist’s figure. Here, unlike the original design by Shamir Brothers, the scientist holds a test tube. 5.5X5.5 cm. Illustration (photo, gouache and pasting on paper) created according to the photos. 24X18 cm. • Sketch for banknote’s obverse. Pencil crayon and pen on semi-transparent paper. 19X12.5 cm.
4. • Design proposal (photo) for One Israeli Lira reverse, with an illustration which was printed on the reverse of a Ten Lirot banknote (section of Isaiah Scroll). 13.5X7.5 cm. • Design proposal (photo) for Ten Lirot banknote reverse, with illustration that appears on the reverse of One Lira banknotes (mosaic floor of ancient synagogue in Isfiya). 14.5X8 cm.
• Two sketches for banknote reverse (attached). Pencil crayon, pencil and pen on semi-transparent paper. 16X11 cm, 17X19 cm. • Final draft of banknote’s reverse.
Foxing marks, glue marks. Some of the sketches are detached from boards.
