Silver Channukah Lamp – Dedication to

An upright silver Channukah Lamp, donated as a gift to Synagogue in
Essen (the city or the district). Germany, the end of the 19th century, beginning
of the 20th century.
On the base of the Channukah Lamp is an enamel plaque with
the writing "a souvenir of the dedication of the new synagogue
of the Holy Community of Essen", held by two lions and
topped by a crown. Under the plaque is a silver plaque with
etching, "M. C. Lezer dedit A 5661" – 1901.
Assumedly, the Channukah Lamp was composed of two separate
pieces and thus it was given to the synagogue in Essen at
the time of its dedication (different silver stamps, on the base
stamps from Austria, on its upper part stamps from Germany).
The base of the Channukah Lamp is decorated with protruding
patterns of plants [used originally as a candlestick?]; its
upper part decorated with protruding smalls balls and simple etched geometric
shapes. The branches are also decorated with patterns of plants. At
the top of the Channukah Lamp, above the shamash – an eagle.
Height: 63.5cm, maximal width: 43cm, base diameter: 22cm. Weight: 2.5Kg.
