Set of Mishna Berura – Proofread – Original Bindings

Opening: $500
Sold for: $1,625
Including buyer's premium
Six volumes of Mishna Berura, commentary on Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim, by Rabbi Yisrael Meir HaCohen of Radin, The Chafetz Chaim. [Stereotype printing, Warsaw-Pietrekov].
Added at beginning of each book in the author's holy handwriting: "Proofread" (all in ink except one in pencil). Volume 2 also has a note to correct something in Siman 132 and indeed a printing erasure has a hand correction.
The Chafetz Chaim was careful to check each book for sale from printing mistakes (exchanged sheets or empty leaves) lest he, G-d forbid, transgress the prohibition of stealing and cheating if a damaged book is sold at regular price. He wrote on the forsatz leaves of each book that he checked "Proofread", (it is accepted knowledge that he himself was careful to write this lest those who help him in his holy work write "Proofread" without checking the book thoroughly enough). Many of these inscriptions disappeared throughout the years because the books were rebound or the penciled inscription was erased.
6 volumes, c. 22 cm. Good conditions. Original fabric bindings (slightly worn) and color leaf cutting, handwritten gloss.
