A detailed report composed by an expedition of 14 men that left the United States in 1847 to survey the Jordan River and the Dead Sea. the expedition was headed by the author, William Francis Lynch, an officer in the American navy and a scholar of Eretz Israel. He was the first to draw an accurate and detailed map of the Jordan River and the Dead Sea, and his expedition was the first to survey the southern part of the Dead Sea. 28 engravings, two of which are folded, with maps of the Jordan River and the Dead Sea.
