Five woodcuts by Joseph Budko, accompanying Heinrich Heine's story written following the blood libel in Damascus in 1840. The initials and title page (woodcut) are designed by Budko. First woodcut, facing title page, is signed in pencil.
Copy number 253 of an edition of 320 copies printed on "Zandersbütten" handmade paper. Bound in a luxurious leather binding (by Euphorion Einband, Hübel & Denck, Leipzig) with an inlay of leather pieces in a different color and gold embossing. Top edges gilt. 88, [2] pp, 19.5 cm. Good condition. Minor foxing marks. Endpapers with dark margins. Minor damages to binding.
