"Ask for mercy" – A printed request to pray for the good health of Rabbi "Gedalia Moshe ben Gittel" the Rebbe of Zvhil. [Jerusalem, c. 1949].
This leaf was sent to the Chazon Ish that he should ardently beseech G-d for his cure and on both sides of the leaf are more names to pray for, written in the handwriting of the Chazon Ish.
Rebbe Gedalia Moshe Goldman (1887-1949), son of Rebbe Shlomo of Zvhil and son-in-law of Rebbe David Shlomo of Kobryn, an outstanding Torah genius and a great tzaddik, served in the rabbinate of Kobryn and Zvhil. Was exiled to Siberia by the Soviet government for seven backbreaking years (1929-1936). Afterward, he ascended to Jerusalem where his great father had already settled. In 1945, was annointed Rebbe instead of his father. Died in 1949 and is buried in the Sheikh-Badr cemetery. His grave is distinguished as a place for prayer and salvation to which many people stream until this day. The custom is to pray at his grave three consecutive times, Monday, Thursday and Monday.
