Printed Ketubah, from “New York City, situated on an island surrounded by water” and sum of Ketubah in “American Dollars”. New York, c. 1830. Printing press of Solomon Henry Jackson.
Ketubah not filled in, except for few words at beginning which were written post 1840 [originally printed “Year five thousand and ______ hundred and ninety _____”. The word “six” hundred added]. On reverse side list of Chiddushei Torah in ancient Ashkenazi handwriting, signed “Meir son of… Rabbi Yehuda of New York”.
29 cm., fair condition, stains and wear, coarse tears on bottom of leaf, without damage to text.
Solomon Henry Jackson of London was the first Jewish printer on the continent of America; among important books which he printed is the first prayer book in America printed in 1826, see item 493.
