Photo-Album - Tnuva Haifa - Meyer Sisters / Loewenheim
Opening: $500
Unsold
An official presentation photograph album of the Tnuva dairy company, documenting the early years of the company’s factory in the city of Haifa. 1940. An interesting photographic record of the early pioneer period of one of the young country’s most important - and longest-lasting - industrial enterprises.
Thirty-one professional black and white photographs, documenting the operations of the Haifa Tnuva plant, its facilities, architectural structure, workers and directors, and more. Pasted to leaves and bound in a cardboard folder-like case, with the Tnuva logo pasted on the front cover.
Six of the photographs (signed in pencil “S.G. Meyer, Haifa”) are by the photographer sisters Charlotte (Lotta) (1911-1978) and Margaret (Gerda) (1913-1993) Meyer, active 1934 to 1957, who specialized in photography of industrial buildings and architectural themes. Twenty-four of the photographs are by Z. Loewenheim, another renowned Haifa-based Eretz Israel architectural photographer, and are stamped on the verso with his ink-stamp. One photo is not signed.
The album was presented to Mr. P. Koenigsberg, a Dutch dairy engineer who immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1933 and started to work in the local dairy industry at Tnuva. His name is on the cover and a dedication to him appears on the first page. Dated March 1940.Dimensions of the photographs vary, from ca.11.5x17cm to 7.5x11cm. Good condition. Minor stains to some leaves. Some stains and glue residue to the cardboard case. Cover string ties partly torn.
