Photo Album prepared by one of the illegal immigrants on "Exodus", [late 1940].
The album presented here is made of a ring binder within which cardboard leaves have been inserted. Original photos have been attached to the leaves, all of which are related to the incident of "Exodus" alongside with newspaper cuttings and printings of famous photos (from books or booklets about "Exodus").
About 190 original photos documenting the deportation of illegal immigrants, their stay in the deportation ship "Ocean Vigor", their transportation in trucks and trains and then their stay in Papendorf camp. Photos of Papendorf camp portray daily life in the camp and its facilities; dining room tent, laundry, games and dances, school and immigrants' demonstrations. Next to these photos and photocopies of proclamations and newspapers, family photos, etc. It is possible, that when the album owner was released from an internment camp in Germany he arrived in Israel on board of Campidoglio in the summer of 1948 or 1949. Average size 7.5X10.5 cm. Moisture marks to some of the leaves. Some of the photos are seriously damaged. Overall good condition. Leaves and photos are covered with plastic.
