"Palestine Oratorium", advertising poster for a concert that was held on the first day of celebrations of the opening of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Jerusalem: Goldberg Press, [1925]. Hebrew and English.
The concert, led by composer and educator Hanina Karchevsky, was held on April 1, 1925, following the opening of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, at the Zion Theater in Jerusalem. The concert featured a grand choir comprised of the choir of the Herzliya Hebrew Gymnasium, the Hazamir Choir and the choir of the Gymnasium & Hebrew Teachers Training College for Girls (Beit Hamidrash Lemorot), accompanied by a symphonic orchestra. The pieces played included compositions by Joseph Haydn (The Creation), George Frideric Handel (Judas Maccabaeus, Samson), Camille Saint-Saëns (The Flood), Felix Mendelssohn (Elijah) and others.
Approx. 62X95 cm. Fair condition. Fold lines and creases. Tears, including open tears, along edges and fold lines (affecting text), some reinforced with tape on verso. Stains.
