The book bears the only approbation to a book ever issued by the Tzemach Tzedek of Lubavitch. Other approbations by R. Mordechai of Chernobyl (the Maggid of Chernobyl) and his sons extol the segulah and protective qualities of the book.
The author, R. Yehudah Leib HaKohen of Anipoli (Hannopil; d. 1807), was a disciple of the Maggid of Mezeritch. He and R. Zusha of Anipoli were the only two requested by R. Shneur Zalman of Liadi to grant their approbation to the Tanya.

[1], 12; 84; 33 leaves. Machatzit HaShekel: 2-40 leaves (missing first two leaves). 25 cm. Fair-good condition. Stains, including dampstains and large, black ink stains. Wear. Marginal tears to title page and several other leaves, not affecting text. The second book contains open tears, affecting text (large marginal tear to one leaf, restored with paper). Inscriptions. Stamps. New binding.
